Adani Group has been awarded a $1.3 billion concession to build power transmission lines in Kenya.
The Adani Group has strongly denied issuing a fake press release that circulated on social media, threatening Kenyan protestors and claiming to expose government officials and individuals who allegedly received bribes from the company. The group has condemned the malicious act and urged the public to disregard the fake release.
In an official statement, Adani Group clarified that it does not issue press releases through unofficial channels and instead posts all official releases on its website. The company has requested media outlets and influencers to verify facts and sources before publishing or broadcasting news about the Adani Group.
Despite the controversy, Adani Group has secured a significant project in Kenya. The company, along with a unit of the African Development Bank, has been awarded a $1.3 billion concession to build power transmission lines in the country. This development comes after Kenyan aviation union workers ended their protest against the proposed takeover of Nairobi’s main airport by the Adani Group.
The protest, which lasted several days, was called off after negotiations between the union and government officials assured workers of job security and favorable working conditions under the new management. With the fake press release debunked and the airport takeover dispute resolved, Adani Group can now focus on its projects in Kenya.
